What is Site Manager 4?
Site Manager 4 is the new (Sept 2022) software suite, custom built by Concise to manage the AWS platform on which the Chime Live & Chime Go are based.
Site Manager 4 has an interface where authorized users can carry out various simple actions related to Chime sites.
There is a large section of command and control that is invisible to Site Manager end users. This command and control allows Site Manager to look at Chime sites, assess their requirements and deliver the computing power required for show days using automated control over the AWS platform.
Future developments will include an API so that Chime sites can be created and populated from whatever is deemed best for the business for example a form or a Compass opportunity.
Where does it live?
Site Manager lives on our AWS platform and there will be one instance of Site Manager and one set of AWS infrastructure for each of the following regions:
- North Virginia = Concise-US, Encore-US, Encore-Mexico
- Montreal = Encore-Canada
- Frankfurt = Concise-UK & Encore-EMEA
- Sydney = Encore-ANZPAC
The infrastructure in an AWS region has a certain cost to maintain even if you didn't run a single show so various parts of the business will use the same region's Site Manager and infrastructure.
Accessing Site Manager 4
Site Manager can be accessed securely via a VPN (Virtual Private Network) by the appropriate team members from anywhere in the world.
- Connect to the VPN for the appropriate region
- Enter the site manager URL into your browser
See the guide Connecting to Site Manager 4 for the setup.
You need to set up:
- JumpCloud + 2FA
- VPN + 2FA
Site Manager 4 User Interface
Please note that this is a demo site, (chime-live.events & chime-live.com are used for Dev purposes only), the only domains you will see on your Site Manager 4 are anything.xx.chime.events (App Build server, VPN access only - CONCISE ONLY) and anything.xx.chime.live (Pre&Post server and Show server, on the public internet)
Server Tabs - there are three server tabs where you can see the sites on each server.
- AppBuild (Concise Only) - single server plus various AWS infrastructure
- Pre/Post Event - single server plus various AWS infrastructure
- Show Days - automatically scaled multi-server setup plus various AWS infrastructure
Notifications - appear at the top of the screen, click the dropdown arrow for details or X to remove them.
New Site - create a new site from available pre-defined templates
Restore Site - restore a site by uploading the site zip file from your local computer.
Site Cards
The area with the site name and details is called a "site card". You can see information at a glance, click on the link to access the CMS, or use the menu icon to access additional functions.
The site cards are grouped by domain.
For example, the North Virginia Region may have us.chime.live (Encore US), na.chime.live (Concise US), mx.chime.live (Encore Mexico)- all visible together in the same interface.
Search
Don't forget to use the search function if you have a lot of sites. It is easy to forget this and start scrolling, but the search is so much quicker.
Key Actions
Create an AppBuild Site - Concise Only
Concise start their sites on an AppBuild server as they often build complex, customized sites which require extensive testing. The AppBuild server is only accessible via VPN and is not available to the public on the public internet.
From the site card, you can move a site from the private AppBuild Server to the public Pre/Post Event server. You cannot move a site from the Pre & Post server back to the AppBuild server.
Create a New Public Site - Encore
Creating a public site is quick and easy. When it is created, it will be available on the public internet. You can create a site from a template or create a clone of another site.
If you are not using the latest template, make sure that the site you are cloning is the appropriate version number. If you don't have the latest version, you may not have access to all the latest features.
Clone a Site
Instead of creating a new site from a template, you can clone an existing site including whatever data or content is in it.
Find the site card of a site that you would like to clone and check that it has a green dot (⬤). If the dot is red (⬤), it means it is not the latest version of Chime and won’t let you clone it.
Move a Site to the Show Day Server
You can move a site manually but you shouldn't be doing this, the dates in the site CMS should trigger an automated move. This is mentioned here because it is possible in an emergency. Reach out to your regional admin before you do this.
Move a Site off the Show Day Server
You can move a site manually but you shouldn't be doing this, the dates in the site CMS should trigger an automated move. There is NO emergency situation where you should need to move a site off a Show Day server manually. Only the regional admin should be doing this.
Back up and Remove a Site
You can back up a site and also back up and remove a site on the Pre&Post server. A versioned zip file of the site will be saved to the AppBuild Server. Currently, access to the zip files is limited to admins.
