This article is to help you understand what Microsoft Teams can do for your internal meetings and events. Encore's policy is to use Zoom for paid client events and Teams for internal meetings and events. Encore does not provide individual Zoom accounts.

Teams and Zoom share many features so Teams can be used for almost all internal meetings and events as well as planning meetings with clients. If you have a unique situation where Zoom needs to be used for an internal event or production meeting with a client, Support Center can review these on a case-by-case basis

Teams features

As you can see in the graphic above, Teams shares many features with Zoom, and even contains a few that are exclusive to Teams. These features include:

  • Capacity - Teams allows up to 10,000 people to join a meeting. Anyone joining after the first 1,000 people will switch to a view-only experience. It should be noted, however, that Outlook has a restriction to where you can only send out 500 invitations at once.
  • Security - Teams supports multi-factor authentication methods beyond traditional passwords.
  • Quality - Video is streamed at 1080p by default.
  • Office365 Integration - Allows for team collaboration across programs like Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Separate Channels - Teams allows you to have up to 1,000 separate channels dedicated to projects,. You can add and remove people at any time as well as share files to those only in the channel.
  • Breakout rooms - As host, you'll be able to shuffle everyone or just individual people into their own breakout rooms. However, it should be noted that the use of breakout rooms is limited to meetings with fewer than 300 attendees, and the use of breakout rooms will cap your meeting at 300 attendees.
  • Translations - The captions in meetings will automatically be translated thanks to live captions. Teams offers translation support for 40+ languages including English, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French, and more.
  • 3 Devices - Attendees will be able to join your meeting with their unique link on up to three separate devices.
  • Built-in calling and voicemail - Stay up-to-date with all the latest information thanks to Team's calling and voicemail feature.
  • AI recap - Thanks to intelligent recap, AI will generate notes after your meetings.
  • End-to-end encryption - Never worry about leaks thanks to end-to-end encryption for meetings and file sharing.
  • Screensharing and whiteboards - Share your screen, draw, and interact with teammates thanks to screensharing.
  • Killswitches - If you have an unruly attendee, you're able to remotely disable the audio and video for that specific individual, or for everyone at once.
  • Accessibility- Teams features text telephone (TTY) for users with hearing or speech impairments. You can also add alt text to images for users with vision impairments.
  • Easier recording management - No need to worry about asking for a copy of the meeting, as recordings are shared inside the channel created for the meeting. Everyone in that specific channel will have access to the recording as soon as it's available.
  • Avatars - Unable or nervous to be on camera? No worries! Available as a free add-on via the apps section, you can have a digital model represent you during meetings.
