Tablets Not on The MDM
With approximately 3,500 Lenovo M8 tablets distributed in 2024, some players have accidentally shipped without first being connected to Encore's MDM (Mobile Device Management) system called MaaS360. The MDM allows Product Management to deliver updates and set optimal settings on the tablets. It also limits what users can do on the tablets in order to avoid shenanigans that compete with their availability to play Encore Music.
If a tablet isn't displaying the Encore logo on the home screen (like the first tablet pictured below), then it's likely not on the MDM. You'll want to get it onto the MDM for consistent operation and to get all Encore's updates.
- Not on MDM - no Encore logo wallpaper
- On MDM, but pre-January 2025 image - you'll see 5 app icons across the top, including one called Encore App Catalog with the Encore logo
- On MDM with January 2025 image - you'll see 6 app icons across the top, including the Play Store
Getting a Tablet Onto the MDM - Prep Phase
To get a tablet onto the MDM, the venue team member will need to fill out the Encore Music request form to alert Support Center that you need help. Under "What type of Encore Music, Videos, and Images do you need?" choose Hardware Issue. Then in the Description include the following:
- The Lenovo serial number (found under Settings > About Tablet > Device Identifiers > Serial Number at the bottom, usually starts with "HGR... ")
- The Encore barcode number (usually located on a sticker on the back of the tablet)
Support Center will pass both the Lenovo serial number and the Encore barcode number along to Product Management. They'll create a place for the tablet in the MDM.
The venue team will need to wait for Product Management to work in the MDM. While waiting, just in case Product Management finds the MDM partially configured, it's wise to have the venue leave the tablet in the following state:
- powered on
- plugged in to charge
- connected to Wi-Fi
Do not proceed to the Action Phase until Product Management has confirmed the necessary setup in the MDM is completed.
Getting a Tablet Onto the MDM - Action Phase
Only once Product Management has confirmed the necessary preparations have been made in the MDM, the venue should follow these instructions:
- Factory reset the tablet through the onboard settings menu and watch for the initial Hello screen to show up when the reset has finished
- At the “Hi There” screen select English and click “Start”
- Agree to all and then click “Next”
- Connect to Wi-Fi (ideally on a network that does not require signing in through a splash page)
- “This device belongs to your organization” screen, click “Next”
- “Lets set up you work device” screen, click “Accept and Continue”
- “This device isn’t private”, Click “Next”
- “Google Services” Yes to all checkboxes and then click “Accept”
- IBM MaaS360 Authenticate Screen
a. Username – encoremusic (should auto-populate) click “Continue”
b. Password – Encore2024!
c. “Steps” screen click “Continue”
d. “Accept terms” screen click “I have read and accept the terms” then click “Continue”
e. “Enter Asset Number” screen, enter asset barcode number, click “Continue”
- Keep connected to Wi-Fi and allow the tablet to pull down the MaaS360 profile configurations. This usually takes 10-15 minutes, but can sometimes take an hour. The tablet may reboot during this process.
- Kiosk mode should auto initiate once complete
- If Kiosk mode doesn’t auto initiate
a. Open MaaS360 app on the tablet
b. Go to “Settings” / “Corporate Settings"
c. Tap “Enable Kiosk Mode” wait for 30 seconds and click continue.
d. If Kiosk mode does not enable, reboot the tablet and repeat steps 12a-12c.
Once all steps are complete, your tablet should have the Encore logo on the home screen and be ready to pair to a Soundtrack Your Brand subscription. The tablet will remain in kiosk mode all the time so that important settings cannot be changed.
